Day 2 of the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) has been an interesting affair so far with a number of fascinating buys and unsold players. The likes of Eoin Morgan and Aaron Finch remained unsold while Jofra Archer and Romario Shepherd fetched big bucks. After the first session, it was the turn of lots 6 and 7 to be auctioned and these mainly included uncapped Indian players. The players that were part of India’s under-19 world cup winning team were also in these lots and while there were a number of players that remained unsold, some went for good prices as well.

Raj Bawa sold for 2 crore

The three biggest buys from lot 6 were Raj Bawa, N Tilak Verma and Rajvardhan Hangargekar. Verma was bought by the Mumbai Indians (MI) for 1.7 crore rupees while Hangargekar was sold to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for 1.5 crore rupees. Bawa will be a part of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) this season as he was bought for 2 crore rupees. U-19 world cup winning skipper Yash Dhull was also a part of the players in lot 6 and as expected, he was not one of those that went unsold.

Mahipal Komror went to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) purchased Anukul Roy. Surprisingly, u-19 left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal remained unsold.

Titans buy Yash Dayal for 3.2 crore

Lot 7 saw a lot more players unsold but it also saw the one fetching the highest bid from the two lots. New franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) purchased Yash Dayal for a whopping 3.2 crore rupees. He might very well have a crucial part to play in his franchise’s debut season in the IPL. Simranjeet Singh was the only other buy from the lot and he was purchased by CSK for 20 lakh rupees.

The IPL auction in 2022 is expected to be one of the largest in recent memory. This is because two new franchises have been added to the mix. Yes, the IPL has returned to a ten-team format. This isn’t the first time a concept like this has been tried; the league adopted a similar format in 2011. The two new teams, on the other hand, would quickly become mired in financial difficulties and fold. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, the two new teams for 2022, will hope to avoid a similar fate.
