It was a night of records for the Delhi Capitals (DC) as two of their top players reached their personal milestones. South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, with the wicket of Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain KL Rahul on Sunday, earned the 150th T20 wicket of his career. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also reached a personal milestone as the game against PBKS marked the 250th T20 game of his career. Australian batsman Steve Smith made his debut for DC in the same match.

Kagiso Rabada’s Excellent Record

Rabada has been DC’s ace fast bowler for a while now and also been one of their, if not the most, consistent players. The South African made his IPL debut in the 2017 season in which he bagged six wickets. In the 2019 season, he picked 25 wickets in 12 games for DC, and in 2020, he picked 30 in 17 games. So far this season, he has taken three wickets in two games. His overall wickets tally in the IPL stands at 64 in just over three seasons, which is a ridiculous number.

A veteran of the tournament, and of the gentleman’s game, Ashwin has been playing in the IPL since 2009. He spent the majority of his IPL career at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), before moving to Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He then played for the Kings XI Punjab, now known as PBKS in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, and since 2020, he has been part of the Delhi Capitals (DC). Ashwin has taken 139 wickets in his illustrious career so far.

Sunday’s game against PBKS also saw the franchise debut of Australian superstar Steve Smith. Despite the expectations, the Aussie failed to impress in his first game of the season but knowing his quality, this might only be a blip. Smith has scored a total of 2,342 runs in 96 matches, with an average of almost 35.
