Deepak Chahar showcased his full range of variations, getting the ball to swing both ways and also deceiving the batsmen with slower balls.
Team India coach Ravi Shastri had words of praise for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar, following his brilliant four-wicket haul in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 league encounter against Punjab Kings (PBKS). Shastri hailed Chahar’s performance as “brilliant”, which is an indication of how highly he rates the spell. “Proven fact. Genuine swing both ways with control can undo the best. Super variations. Brilliant @deepak_chahar9 #CSKvsPBKS @IPL #IPL2021 @ChennaiIPL,” read the message from the Team India coach on social media platform Twitter.

Chahar finished with figures of 4/13, which represents his best bowling figures in the cash-rich league. Here is a look at his four-wicket haul:

The pacer opened his account with a brilliant outswinger to dismiss Mayank Agarwal. The ball landed on good length in line with middle stump, before swerving away sharply to beat the bat, hitting the stumps. This was followed by the dismissal of Chris Gayle, who drove a knuckle ball to the right of backward point, where Ravindra Jadeja made his presence felt with a fine catch.
Chahar followed that up with a second successive duck for Nicholas Pooran, just two balls later. Pooran attempted to pull a short ball, dragging it off the inside half to find Shardul Thakur at fine leg.
The final dismissal was that of Deepak Hooda, who had scored a brilliant half-century for PBKS in their opening league encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Hooda chipped a dolly off a full delivery to Faf du Plessis at mid-off.
Chahar will certainly be happy to have made amends for a below-par performance in CSK’s opening league match against Delhi Capitals (DC). The 28-year-old can be unplayable on his day with excellent variations in pace, line and length as PBKS realised.
