Ahead of the IPL 2021 game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, we analyse the key battles that could decide the game’s fate.

Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Prasidh Krishna

Gaikwad was a breath of fresh air in the IPL 2020 but has struggled to get going so far this season. Prasidh, meanwhile, shone on debut for India before the IPL but has had mixed fortunes for KKR so far. Both will look to get going, and will most likely have to best the other to do so.

Nitish Rana vs Deepak Chahar

Rana has been the pick of the KKR batsmen atop the order. However, he had a poor outing in the game vs RCB and will be keen to bounce back. Similarly, Chahar had a forgettable outing against RR but was on fire against PBKS. The swing bowler will be key to CSK’s hopes of getting Rana early.

Sam Curran vs Andre Russell

This battle of the two all-rounders will fascinating to watch. Curran has shone with both bat and ball so far this season; Russell moreso with the ball. However, both are dangerous operators with the ability to change the game single-handedly. Whosoever performs better might end up being the difference for their side.

Eoin Morgan vs Ravindra Jadeja

Morgan’s form has been patchy this season and his struggles against spin are well-known. CSK will look to use Jadeja to exploit the KKR skipper’s weakness against the turning ball. However, if Morgan can survive Jadeja, he could be on his way to a first big knock of the season.

Moeen Ali vs Pat Cummins

Moeen has been a revelation at number 3, putting in consistent performances for CSK. Cummins, meanwhile, has been showing glimpses of the bowler everyone knows he can be. How Moeen navigates the Aussie pacer will determine whether or not he gets another decent score to his name.
