All-round India put up a dominating performance to beat the West Indies by six wickets in the first of three-match ODI series at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday. Chasing a modest target of 177 runs, India ODI captain Rohit Sharma (60) and his opening partner Ishan Kishan (28) forged a first-wicket stand of 84 runs before the former was sent packing. The duo complimented each other as Sharma hit 10 boundaries and one six in his 51-ball knock while Kishan smashed two fours and one hit over the fence in his 36-ball innings.

The opening stand set the course for the hosts but former India captain Virat Kohli (8) and wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant (11) failed to add to the momentum as the hosts lost wickets in quick succession.

Deepak Hooda impresses on debut

However, from there on, hard-hitting batter Suryakumar Yadav (34 not out) and former Baroda captain Deepak Hooda (26 not out) sailed through the innings with ease as India chased down the target with 22 overs to spare.

Yadav hit five boundaries in his innings while the debutant also impressed with his cautious unbeaten knock of 32 deliveries which included two fours.

For the West Indies, Alzarri Joseph was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped two wickets, which includes the key dismissal of Kohli. He was also involved in the run out of Pant.

Jason Holder-Fabian Allen fight back

Earlier, opting to bowl, Chahal and Washington Sundar ran through the West Indies top-order to leave them reeling at 71/5. Openers Shai Hope (8) and Brandon King (13) failed to do much with the bat as Darren Bravo (18), Shamarah Brooks (12), Nicholas Pooran (18) and captain Kieron Pollard (0) followed suit.

However, it then looked like middle and lower-order batsmen Jason Holder (57) and Fabian Allen (29), were batting on a different pitch as they opened a late fightback for the West Indies. The duo forged a 78-run stand for the eighth wicket to resurrect the West Indies innings from 79/7 to 157/8.

The tall all-rounder turned out to be the aggressor between the two as he fearlessly struck four sixes in his 71-ball knock. His partner Allen played the perfect role of a second fiddle as he paced his 43-ball knock cautiously and hit two boundaries before falling to Sundar.

Following their dismissal, Alzarri Joseph (13), contributed with an important cameo. His 16-ball knock included one boundary and one hit over the fence.

Chahal was the stand-out bowler for India in the match as he returned figures of 4/49 with Sundar picking up 3 for 30. Among the seamers, Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets while Mohammed Siraj scalped one, early.
