The second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday, February 17. The hosts dominated the first Test in Nagpur, closing the battle in three days despite a lot of discussion on the field, most of it from the Australian team. There were several positives for India in the first Test of the series, the most notable of which was all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s triumphant comeback. The 34-year-old was named Player of the Match after capturing seven wickets and hitting a critical 70 in his first game since suffering a catastrophic injury during the Asia Cup in the UAE last year.
A day before the Test match, Australia’s captain remained non-committal regarding any potential changes to the lineup. Australia has had Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc practise bowling in the lead-up to the Test, but they will still be wary about pushing them in too soon. However, if available, the two would add a lot of balance to the side, even though the idea of inserting a third spinner remains uncertain given the circumstances on offer. Returning from injury, Shreyas Iyer has had a handful of hits out in the days running up to the Test with no evident symptoms of difficulty. If he is healthy, he will replace Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order.

In the previous three matches, the average first-innings score at Arun Jaitley Stadium has been 377. Spinners, on the other hand, should dominate the roost in Delhi, having taken 66 of the 96 wickets in the past three Tests there. The new ball should also provide some assistance to the pacers. The custom is to bat first after winning the toss, with the pitch likely to worsen as the match proceeds.
