India vs West Indies 3rd T20I: Suryakumar Yadav scores fifty; India put up a competitive total

The third and final T20I between India and West Indies is currently going on in Kolkata. The hosts have already won the series with one game in hand. Suryakumar Yadav scored a quickfire fifty and helped the team put up a decent total of 184 runs for 5.

West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. And, they got early success too as Ruturaj Gaikwad fell for a mere 4. Later Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer added 53 runs. However, the regular opener as well as the captain Rohit Sharma came to bat at 4 but looked struggling in the middle.

He could only manage 7 off 15 in front of a strong bowling attempt. However, later, Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial knock. He started taking on every bowler and successfully built a partnership with Venkatesh Iyer. Yadav smacked a blitzy 65 off 31 comprising of a boundary and 7 sixes. On the other hand, Iyer scored a quickfire 35* off 19 with 4 fours and 2 sixes as well.

‘I think every shot of his has a touch of grace’ – Venkatesh Iyer on Suryakumar Yadav

Their combined 91 runs in the final overs saw Team India put up a huge competitive total of 184. It will be interesting to know how if they manage to defend the total or the visitors end the series on a winning note.

After the first innings, all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer said: “More than I enjoyed my batting, I enjoyed his (Surya’s) batting. Really happy to have contributed in the partnership. I think every shot of his has a touch of grace. There is thought behind it but he just stands out. That pick up shot over the leg-side of his is great. My shot was on the cards and it was Surya’s idea for me to shuffle and scoop it.”
