In my eyes, India won the Test series in England 2-1: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma believes India won the series after having led 2-1 at the end of the 4th Test, which is certainly an interesting viewpoint.

Team India opener Rohit Sharma believes that the visitors won the recently concluded five-match Test series in England by a 2-1 margin. Interestingly, there is no official confirmation in this regard so far with the final Test match suspended and expected to take place next year. India held a 2-1 lead in the series going into the encounter, but Rohit certainly believes that the suspended Test does not hold much importance in determining final proceedings at least currently.

“It was a good one (England tour) based on where I was standing in Test cricket before that. But I wouldn’t say this was my best. I know my best is yet to come in Test cricket, it was a great tour personally for me. And also for the team. I don’t know what has happened in the last Test match, whether we won the series or we are going to play that one-off Test match later. I think in my eyes, we have won the series 2-1. That’s how I would like to look at it,” said the Team India opener while interacting with the press during the launch of Adidas India’s ‘IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING’ campaign.

Rohit was India’s top run-getter in the Test series in England, accumulating 368 runs which included a century in four Tests. However, the opener has certainly not enjoyed much success so far while leading defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

Recent defeat for MI against DC

Defending champions MI suffered a defeat recently against Delhi Capitals (DC), which was certainly vital with both teams battling it out for a playoffs berth. Rohit sounded disappointed following the loss, blaming the batsmen for failing to make their presence felt.

“We always knew it was going to be a difficult venue. Watched a lot of games and we do understand that it isn’t the easiest of the grounds to play and get those runs you want. We came prepared, we knew exactly what to expect from the conditions, we spoke of those as to how we need to go about when we bat. Didn’t bat well, we didn’t create those partnerships, we always knew that it wasn’t a 170-180 wicket, we knew 140 is a par score here. We just couldn’t get the partnerships going. If your batters are not going to put runs on the board, it’s going to be difficult to win games consistently. We have struggled with our batting this season, I personally accept that,” said Rohit as quoted by Cricbuzz.

MI bowling coach Shane Bond has refused to rule out his side’s prospects of qualifying for the playoffs of IPL 2021, despite the defeat against DC.

“I thought we had a chance to win the game. On a very tough wicket I thought the score around 145 would probably be a winning total which finally proved to be right. The bowlers gave us an opportunity to win the game. I think Delhi played well in the middle, put some chances up in the middle when the going got tougher and the way Shreyas and Ravi played in the back end was very calm and composed. It’s a difficult wicket. I’m happy with the way the bowlers fought in the game,” said Bond in an interaction with MI’s official website.
