The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 kicked off on October 16 in Australia with the First Round, followed by the Super 12 matches. As the showpiece event has already seen 37 games and the tournament is nearing its business end, there have been some fantastic performances by some players who have engraved their names as the highest wicket-takers of the month-long competition.
So far in this competition, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga has been the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. The premier spinner has 13 wickets to his name at an average of 13.53. Sri Lanka has been fortunate to have him in their team, as he has delivered during important game stages with slower deliveries and a decent spin. It was only against Australia where he was taken to the cleaners by Stoinis.
Blessing Muzarabani of Zimbabwe has climbed through the ranks and has some magnificent appearances with the national team so far in the tournament. Since the African nation had to fight its way through the First Round, Muzarabani has taken 11 wickets at an average of 13.54. These numbers might help Muzarabani get an IPL contract for IPL 2023. He was a net bowler in IPL 2022.
Anrich Nortje has so far taken 10 wickets in the Super 12 stage. His most recent game, against Babar Azam’s Pakistan, saw him take four wickets despite being hit for 41 runs in his four overs. The bowler has been in magnificent form for the team with the ball, and much more is expected if the team advances to the final four.
Joshua Little who took a hat-trick against New Zealand on Friday, November is at number 4 with 11 wickets in 7 games. The left-arm seamer has been impressive against England, Australia and New Zealand as he has gone for just under 7 runs per over against these sides.
