The Gujarat Giants have added another high-profile player to their roster with the appointment of Australian veteran Rachael Haynes as head coach for the first Women’s Premier League. This is the second high-profile signing in as many days, following the entrance of the famous Mithali Raj as a mentor and advisor only a few days ago. Rachael Haynes, who played for Australia for more than a decade and won six World Championships with them, retired from all forms of the game in September of last year. Her top-level experience would be beneficial to the backroom staff, which includes former Indian spinner Nooshin Al Khadeer as bowling coach, Tushar Arothe as batting coach, and Gavan Twining as fielding coach.

“The likes of Rachael Haynes, Nooshin Al Khadeer, Tushar Arothe, and Gavan Twining will certainly take the performance of the team notches up. Not only have they carved a niche for themselves in their roles, but their stories of resilience will be an inspiration for the team.  Their combined strengths will enable Adani Sportsline’s Gujarat Giants to give their best performance on the ground at the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League, which will inspire several aspiring women athletes,” Mithali said in an official statement.

Giants are the first team to reveal all their staff

The experienced Australian is thrilled to be a part of the historic competition and is looking forward to collaborating with long-time competitor Mithali Raj in the Gujarat Giants’ camp. She stated that the franchise’s goal is to play an attractive kind of cricket that would draw fans and spectators to the league. “The Women’s Premier League is such an exciting addition to the cricket landscape. The opportunity to be involved in the inaugural season with the Adani Sportline-owned Gujarat Giants and work with the brilliant Mithali Raj is something I’m really looking forward to. We have formed a wonderful coaching team, with Nooshin Al Khadeer, Tushar Arothe and Gavan Twining, who will be bringing on board their rich experience which will help the team to play an exciting brand of cricket which our fans will enjoy watching,” Haynes said.

In other news, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to launch the Women’s Premier League with a bang (WPL). According to a preliminary schedule being circulated among the necessary authorities of the yet-to-be-launched league, the inaugural match would be played on March 4 between Team Mumbai and Team Ahmedabad (Saturday). It may appear to be another opening, but the match-intrinsic up’s significance cannot be overlooked. In truth, it is Mukesh Ambani versus Gautam Adani, two of the most powerful names in Indian business and probably two of the wealthiest people in India and the world.
