After failing to earn a call-up to the Indian cricket team for the forthcoming matches against New Zealand and Australia, Indian player Sarfaraz Khan became a hot topic on Friday. Prithvi Shaw was picked up to the T20I squad to play New Zealand, while Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan made headlines for being called up to the Test team to play Australia. Following a protracted exclusion from the team, Shaw was finally accepted after putting on a solid show in all of India’s domestic competitions.

Many well-known figures in cricket, however, believed that Sarfaraz, 25, was unlucky not to be selected for the Indian team. Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, was one of the well-known figures to provide an opinion. “There was a bit of an opening in the Test squad…was hoping that Sarfaraz will make it to the squad. He’s done everything that one could do to deserve a call-up,” Chopra wrote.

Meanwhile, Harsha said, “Very hard on Sarfaraz Khan who has literally broken the door down in first-class cricket. You can’t do more than he has”. At the same time, former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh said, “Spare a thought for Sarfaraz khan. I don’t understand what else he needs to do to get into the test team”. Sarfaraz has played 30 innings in first-class cricket for Mumbai, during which time he has amassed 2436 runs at an average of 110.73. He has amassed nine hundreds, six fifties, and the greatest total of 301 runs. It’s interesting to note that in his last four Ranji Trophy games for Mumbai, he has scored two centuries and two half-centuries. Here are the responses from the public to Sarfaraz Khan’s snub.
