South Africa spoiled premier England all-round Ben Stokes’ ODI swansong in the first match as they clinched a comprehensive 62 runs victory. Rassie van der Dussen played a brilliant knock of 134 runs while Aiden Markram supported him well with a contribution of 77 to guide the visitors to 333/5 after opting to bat.
Jason Roy (43), Jonny Bairstow (63) and Joe Root (86) put up a valiant effort for England in the chase but Anrich Nortje’s four-wicket haul saw them bundle out for 271 runs. The second ODI, meanwhile, was played at the Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester on Friday.
