The season opener of the anticipated Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be contested on Friday, January 6 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur between Chattogram Challengers and Sylhet Strikers. In terms of leadership duties, Chattogram saw far too much drama in the previous season. Initially, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was named captain, and the team performed admirably. However, he was abruptly removed from the post and Naeem Islam was given the responsibility. What followed were controversies regarding the captaincy, something the team does not want this season. Shuvagata Hom will captain the team in this edition, hoping to improve on the team’s record following a disappointing season last year.

Seven teams will compete in the Bangladesh Premier League 2023. Fortune Barishal, Khulna Tigers, Dhaka Dominators, Sylhet Striker, Rangpur Riders, and Chattogram Challengers are the teams. In the league stage, each side will play a total of 12 games. Every team will play two games against other teams throughout the competition. At the end of the league stage, the top four teams in the points standings will progress to the playoffs.
