Ahead of their 7th match of the season, the Sunrisers Hyderabad management stripped David Warner off of his captaincy. Warner was also overlooked for the playing XI against Rajasthan Royals, as a strategy to form a new overseas combination. However, SRH went on to lose the match against RR despite the major changes.

During the match, Warner was seen working for the team as the waterboy. Meanwhile, a picture of SRH teammate Shreevats Goswami consoling him also surfaced on social media which touched the hearts of cricketing fans across the globe.

The SRH management, after the crushing defeat against RR, faced heavy backlash for dropping a batsman like Warner. He was, in fact, the captain and the leading run-scoerer in SRH’s title-winning season in 2016 IPL.

In their latest match against RR, Warner was replaced by Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi but the move didn’t go down well for the team. Nabi conceded 21 runs in the only over he bowled and was only able to score 17 runs off the bat. Meanwhile, SRH opened with Johnny Bairstow and Manish Pandey but that tactic failed too.

Warner, a giant in the T20 format, led SRH from the front for years. Recently, before getting dropped, Warner achieved the feat for most half-centuries in the IPL, which showcases his consistency with the bat.

In the 93 innings that Warner has played for the ‘Orange Army’, he has scored 4012 runs at a whopping average of 50.78. He has also scored 40 fifties and two hundreds for the franchise and has recorded a fifty-plus score once every 2.21 innings.

Even in the 2020 edition of the IPL, the left-hander was in scintillating form for the Hyderabad-based franchise. Warner amassed 548 runs and emerged as the 3rd highest run-scorer in the 2020 IPL edition. He averaged close to 40 last year and scored his runs at a strike rate in excess of 130. SRH dropped someone who has been the proud winner of the Orange Cap award thrice in the IPL.
