The third and final Test match between Australia and South Africa finished in a stalemate on the final day at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with both sides keeping each other at bay. Because of their victories in the previous two Tests against the Proteas, Australia effectively won the series 2-0. The visitors’ wretched trip came to an end with a hard-fought stalemate. At the outset of the day, Australia needed 14 wickets and owing to the lower order in the first innings and the top order in the second, South Africa only handed away five.
Despite the fact that the Australians were fighting hard for a win with the intermittent showers, the hosts will be happy to close the match on equal terms after securing the series in the second Test. It is worth noting that opener Usman Khawaja smashed an unbeaten 195-run knock in the first innings, propelling the team to a total of 475 runs before declaring. The magnificent innings earned him the Player of the Match title against the Proteas in the third Test.
