Nikhat Zareen defeated Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam with a solid performance to capture her second World Championship gold medal. Nikhat, who had previously won the gold in the 52 kg category for India, competed in this edition’s 48–50 kg weight division. She won a unanimous decision over Thi Tam, the first Vietnamese boxer to enter a World Championship final. Nikhat lived up to her reputation by demonstrating her domination over the two-time Asian champion Thi Tam by hitting solid punches and avoiding the Vietnamese fighter’s hits with her quick feet. The 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Nikhat thus defended her title successfully to claim her second title.
Lovlina Borgohain won India’s fourth and final gold medal of the competition by winning the women’s 70-75 kg finals. This was Lovlina’s third medal in the championships- having won two bronze medals previously. The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, who went through a rough match and couldn’t earn a medal for India in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022, gave a sensational performance at the Women’s World Boxing Championships. The final match proved to be a bit difficult for Lovlina as she faced a two-time CWG medalist Caitlin Parker of Australia. However, the Indian got the verdict in her favor which was a 5-2 split decision victory.
