Nikhat Zareen, the reigning world champion, and Lovlina Borgohain, the Tokyo Olympics 2020 bronze medalist, will not be participating at the Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Bulgaria slated to take place from February 18 to February 27, 2023. This is because of the short time gap between the competition and Women’s World Championships. which will be hosted in New Delhi. The Women’s World Championships will begin on March 15 and run until March 31, 2023. As a result, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) will send a second-tier Indian women’s squad to Strandja.

The BFI announced that the silver medalists from the Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship 2022 will fight in the Strandja Memorial event in all 12 weight categories. Although the squad hasn’t been announced, if the squad is picked on that basis, the competition will feature Tokyo Olympian and World Championship bronze medalist, Simranjit Kaur, Ankushita Boro, the 2022 Asian Championship bronze medalist in welterweight, young Arundhati Choudhary, a three-time Khelo India Games gold medalist, and Kalaivani Srinivasan, the 2019 South Indian Games gold medalist.
