The boxing events in the National Games will get underway on October 5 and last until October 12 at Mahatma Mandir campus in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Lovlina Borgohain, who clinched the bronze medal at the Olympics, has opted to participate in the contest at the last minute. Lovlina had injured her nose during trials for the Asian Boxing Championships 2022 and was advised three weeks’ rest. The Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) had replaced Lovlina with Bhagyabati Kachari in the 75kg weight division. However, the Indian’s boxing champion requested at the last minute to be added to the team for the National Games 2022.

Alongside Lovlina, notable female athletes to watch out for include former World youth champion Ankushita Boro (66kg), Olympian Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Commonwealth Games medalist Jaismine Lamboria (60kg), and medalists at the World championships Jamuna Boro (57kg) and Saweety Boora (75kg). The top boxers who will compete for the top prizes in the men’s division comprise former Worlds medalist and multiple Asian medalist Shiva Thapa (67kg), two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Muhammad Hussamuddin (57kg), Youth world champion Sachin Siwach (57kg), Asian gold medalist Sanjeet (92kg), and Thailand Open title holder Sumit Kundu (75kg).
