The National Games 2022, which will be the 36th edition, is slated to begin on September 27 and continue till October 10 in Gujarat. The multi-sport event which is making its return after a seven-year break will ensure the participation of elite-level athletes of the country. In the previous iteration (2015) in Kerala, team Services emerged as the overall champion, with a whopping 159 medals. Host state Kerala and Haryana secured the second and third spots.
The 36th edition of the National Games will be held across six different cities of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Gandhi Nagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar. The only event which will take place outside of Gujarat will be the track Cycling. Velodrome arena will host the cycling event in Delhi.
On September 5, the Union Home Minister of India unveiled the mascot and anthem for the National Games 2022. Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Thakur and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel were also present on the glorious occasion. The mascot for the National Games has been named “Saavaj” which means Lion in Gujarati. The anthem “Jagega India, Jitega India” sung by Sukhwinder Singh aims to inspire the youth to connect with iconic places like the Statue of Unity and Sabarmati.
The LIVE Streaming of the National Games 2022 will be broadcast on DD Sports. It will also be telecast on the YouTube Channel of the DD Sports, Prasar Bharati Sports.
A few of the events will take place before the opening ceremony of the games, while some are scheduled after the closing ceremony.
