Washington Mystics vs Minnesota Lynx WNBA match will be held on July 17. On Thursday night, the Phoenix Mercury demonstrated why they are a second-half club. The Washington Mystics (15-11) were defeated by Phoenix (11-15), 80-75, in a game that was back-and-forth for the final 20 minutes. In contrast to Tuesday’s setback to the Minnesota Lynx in double overtime, the Mercury seized the lead in the game’s last eight minutes and never let it go again. For Phoenix, the opening ten minutes were not very successful. The first point scored by Phoenix, a layup by Brianna Turner at the 9:16 minute, was reversed because officials decided Turner didn’t let go of the ball before the shot clock ran out.

Near the conclusion of the first quarter, Diamond DeShields, a reserve player, successfully blocked a Mystic basket. DeShields took a heavy hit to the ground on the following play and eventually left the game during a second-quarter comeback effort. DeShields left the game using crutches. Phoenix’s bench on Thursday night struggled offensively without DeShields. The Mercury bench, made up of DeShields, Reshanda Gray, Megan Gustafson, and Jennie Simms, attempted three shots in total but failed to score any points. Diana Taurasi believes the bench contributed physically on Thursday despite the lack of offensive firepower. After the first quarter, the Mercury trailed by 15 points and had to fight back. In the huddle, Taurasi, a veteran of the WNBA for 18 years, encouraged her colleagues. With 29 points on Thursday, Taurasi finished as the day’s top scorer.
