Turkey will take on Switzerland in the FIBA U-20 Women’s European Championship on July 14. The FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship Division B will be the last step for teams to get promoted to the top European stage. Many national team underdogs rely on superstar potential in their youth play, by employing players for their upward potential and star power. One of the rising stars of Turkey is Yilmaz; her talent on the court as well as the stylish player has gained many fans, making her one of the most popular women’s basketball players in Turkey. A player who could go on to become a top star in the EuroLeague Women, Shira Rishoni is not one to be missed when Turkey’s lineup in Skopje. Like many of her compatriots, she started playing basketball at an early age but has made serious waves during her time with Fenerbahce. This will be her second appearance at the U20 European Championship Women since 2013 when she was a late injury replacement and one of the success stories of the tournament along with Georgia’s Mariam Baachadze.

She has been a dominant force at the youth level and even managed to move up to the senior team. Last November she started in an international game against Latvia where she recorded 16 points and 4 rebounds. In August 2018 she finished second in the Youth Olympic Games where she also helped bring home a gold medal for Team Israel. There’s no denying that Garzon is one of the most exciting prospects to come out of Israel. Even though Israel wasn’t voted in by fans, they still managed to round out the roster, thanks largely to Elena Delle Donne. However, Garzon is a player who stood out as well during this summer’s European Championship for Women. Not only does she have a versatile guard game that allows her to play multiple positions, but she is an excellent shooter and rebounder as well. She has shown at Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan in the Israeli League that she can hold her own against international competition and even average 17 points per game – really putting herself on the map as a high-level talent.
