Canada couldn’t recover, ultimately suffering their first loss in the FIBA World Cup 2023 with a final score of 69-65.

Spain is the defending champions and entered their encounter with Latvia with a pristine 3-0 record. Although Spain was expected to continue their winning streak, Latvia had different plans. The first quarter ended with Latvia surprisingly leading by a single point (17-16). Spain managed to edge ahead in the second quarter holding a three-point advantage (32-29) at halftime.

The third quarter saw Spain begin to pull away, at one point enjoying a twelve-point lead. As the final quarter began, the defending champions held an 11-point advantage (58-47). However, Latvia’s tenacity shone through in the fourth quarter as they executed a remarkable comeback. Spain couldn’t halt Latvia’s charge and at the 2:42 mark. They found themselves trailing. Ultimately, Spain suffered a stunning defeat losing by five points (74-69).

Now both Canada and Spain are eager to redeem themselves after their surprising losses in the early stages of the second round. In their upcoming matchup, Team Canada finds themselves favored over Team Spain. The Canadian squad boasts a stacked roster filled with NBA talent and is predicted to come out on top against the reigning champions.
