South Korea will take on Chinese Taipei in the FIBA Asia Cup on July 14. Liu Cheng, a team veteran, demonstrated his knowledge and growth by scoring 29 points on 11-17 shooting with 4 three-pointers. His previous record for the Asia Cup was 21 points, which he achieved against Kazakhstan in 2015. Additionally working hard, Lin Ting-Chien and Chen Ying-Chun combined for 28 points. In a great Asia Cup debut, Chen also contributed six assists and six steals. Wayne Chism, who was playing in his maiden Asia Cup, put up an incredible display for Bahrain in their first match since 2013. His 24 points and 18 rebounds, however, were unable to give Bahrain the victory. Chinese Taipei quickly grabbed control of the game in the first quarter by going on a 9-0 run while also starting to force turnovers and capitalize in transition. Once Chinese Taipei realized this was a position of advantage, that would set the tone for the remainder of the game.

The “sixth man” assistance provided by the basketball supporters of Chinese Taipei is a significant boost that won’t appear on the stat sheet. Although Liu Cheng’s 29-point outburst was indeed impressive, Chen Ying-overall Chun’s performance of 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals cannot be disregarded. Although this is Chen’s first Asia Cup, he has a wealth of high-level playing experience, which was evident in his opening match. Chinese Taipei scored 31 points as a result of turnovers in addition to 23 points in fast breaks. Early on, they realized that this was the best place for them to convincingly make their case, and they persisted until the very end.
