The FIBA U18 European Championship’s opening day of play saw a number of routs, with France, Spain, and Turkey all winning by at least 45 points or more. With a 97-45 victory over Great Britain in Group A, France kicked off the tournament in an impressive fashion. All 12 players for France scored, making it a true team effort. Daryl Doualla led the way with 13 points and a poster dunk. After one quarter, France only had a 19-15 advantage, but Great Britain would not draw any closer. After that, France dominated, outscoring them 60-16 in the second and third quarters. Additionally, France scored 51 more points off the bench than Great Britain did as a whole.

Israel defeated North Macedonia 79-70 in the other Group A match, which was much closer. Three-point shooting and turnovers turned out to be important game-changing elements. Teodor Simikj played well for North Macedonia, finishing with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Turkey and Spain defeated Poland and Germany, respectively, by scores of 94–43 and 89–44, respectively, in the Group B matches. The 2.16m (7ft 1in) center Samet Yigitoglu of Turkey led the team with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Turkey had five players reach double digits.
