The Phoenix Mercury will head to the Michelob Arena for Game 2 of the WNBA Playoffs against the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday. In Game 1 of the series, the Aces were able to bag an easy 79-63 win against a depleted Mercury team.
Kelsey Plum led the way for the Aces as she scored 22 points on the night. Chelsea Gray also had an impactful night as she scored 17 points, while Jackie Young added 16 points. Kiah Stokes scored only 8 points, but she grabbed 13 rebounds to make her presence felt. After a tight first quarter, the Aces took complete control of the game and from thereon Phoenix never really had a chance to make a comeback. They will be hoping to continue their brilliance in Game 2 and probably wrap the series and move into the next round.
However, Mercury will be looking to avoid the same from happening. They have a lot of injury concerns, which is what has caused their form to fall off. In Game 1, their biggest positive was Diamond DeShields. The guard scored 18 points and grabbed 8 boards, in her attempt to rescue the team. However, she did not get the needed support to get the team beyond the line. No doubt that Aces are in great form, but Mercury cannot be a side that can be taken lightly. If they somehow are able to get it all together, Game 2 could be an interesting affair.
The Phoenix Mercury have reported Diana Taurasi, Kia Nurse and Skylar Diggins -Smith to be out for Game 2 on Saturday. Shey Peddy is listed as questionable as she suffered an injury in Game 1 of the series. The Aces will be without Dearica Hamby, who is ruled out due to injury.
