The New York Liberty will return to the Wintrust Arena for Game 2 of their playoff series against the Chicago Sky on Saturday. Both teams played a stellar Game 1, where the Liberty surprised the defending champs to bag a 98-91 win.
Sabrina Ionescu and Natasha Howard led the way from the front for the team from New York. They scored 22 points each to make things easy for them. Betnijah Laney also stepped up on the big occasion as she scored 17 points and also contributed with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Stefanie Dolson also chipped in with 13 valuable points and 7 rebounds. Both teams were neck and neck throughout the matchup, but when the fourth quarter arrived, it was Liberty who showed up looking stronger. The Sky are known to be a stellar defensive unit. But Ionescu and Howard were able to easily get past them and make things easier for the New Yorkers.
Despite the loss, the Sky had some great individual performances. Reigning Finals MVP Kahleah Copper scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Sky. Allie Quigley also stepped up and racked up 18 points. Veteran Candace Parker secured a double-double as she scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds on the night. Courtney Vandersloot also recorded a double-double as she added 13 points and 10 rebounds. However, all of these efforts proved to be valiant as the team from Chicago fell short seven points short of a win.
The New York Liberty will have all their players available for selection ahead of Game 2 of the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky will take the court without Li Yueru on Saturday.
