Paraguay vs Uruguay FIBA South American Championship Women’s match will be held on August 5. Stephanie Soares, a forward for Iowa State who is 6 feet 6 inches tall, was chosen for the Brazil Women’s Basketball National Team, the Brazil Basketball Confederation announced on Saturday. From August 1 to August 6 in Argentina, Soares and Brazil will compete in the FIBA South American Women’s Championship. Soares, a member of the squad that competed in FIBA World Cup Qualifying in February, won her fourth invitation to the Senior National Team. She also competed for Brazil in the 2018 South American Women’s Championship and the Americas Tournament for the 2019 Olympic Pre-Qualifying.
After playing for The Master’s University in Santa Clarita, California, an NAIA institution for three seasons, Soares transferred to Iowa State. She earned the first team of All-Americans three times and was named the NAIA Player of the Year twice. She averaged 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game for her club in the 2021–22 season, which resulted in a 32-4 record and a quarterfinal appearance in the NAIA Championship. Starting on Monday at 4:30 p.m. against Colombia in the group round, Brazil will play five games throughout the course of the six-day competition. The match with Chile will thereafter take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

The top two teams from each group compete for a spot in the final bracket and the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in 2023, with the remaining four teams vying for fifth and seventh in a consolation round. On FIBA’s YouTube page, every game from the South American Women’s Championship in 2022 will be aired live and without charge. Links to each of Soares’ games will be posted daily on the social media channels for the Iowa State women’s basketball team.
