Miami Hurricanes’ twins Haley Cavinder and Hanna Cavinder have gone through it all together, from their basketball adventures to negotiating significant celebrity among the new NIL landscape in college athletics. They finally opted to leave as they came in together when it came time to determine whether to use the fifth year of collegiate eligibility that was offered to players during the COVID-19 pandemic

The 22-year-old twins, who assisted Miami’s incredible run to the Elite Eight last month as a No. 9 seed, have chosen to forgo their additional year of eligibility in order to pursue their dreams outside of basketball. They are among the biggest winners of recent rules and legislation allowing college athletes to profit from name, image, and likeness deals. On Tuesday, they posted an announcement on social media.

The Cavinder twins have made a huge name for themselves

After moving from Fresno State, Haley and Hanna Cavinder averaged 12.2 and 3.8 points per game, respectively, in 2023. In the twins’ first year with the Hurricanes, Haley was awarded second-team All-ACC as Miami advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

The Cavinders had 4.5 million TikTok followers since their freshman year when they passed the time during the COVID-19 pandemic by filming TikTok videos. The Cavinder twins are two of the most notable athletes of the name, image, and likeness era of collegiate sports. They declared on Tuesday that they will not return to the Hurricanes next season, ending their one-year stint with the program.

The Cavinders, both 22 and listed as seniors on the Miami roster, played four seasons in college, but they might have played next season as well, according to an NCAA judgment that restored a year of eligibility to all athletes who were impacted by the pandemic.
