New Zealand vs Syria FIBA Asia Cup match will be held on July 19. Seven intense games were played on the first day of the FIBA U20 European Championship 2022, which did not fall short of expectations. In Group A, France accelerated the tempo and applied pressure right on, defeating Croatia 23-8. Only two of Croatia’s 2018 U16 champions were present in Podgorica, which made things worse for Croatia. During the opening period, France made eight three-pointers, outscoring Croatia by a total of eight. Leo Memalo, who led the Croatians with 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field, had an almost flawless game. However, France never completely lost control of the game and triumphed 76-65, with the help of the flamboyant Matthew Strazel’s 22 points.

Italy, however, improved to 2-0 in the standings after defeating Greece 89-78 after overcoming an early 10-point deficit. This victory followed Italy’s victory on the first day of play. With 19 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 21 minutes of activity, Alfredo Boglio significantly contributed to the victory as Italy outscored their opponents 50-20 from the bench. While Spain seized charge of Group C after defeating the Czech Republic in an 88-71 victory with six different players scoring in double digits, including Juan Nunez with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, France made a statement by defeating Belgium 86-65 with a balanced approach.

Even for the teams in Group B, Israel and Italy’s victories over Portugal and Greece, respectively, did not come easily. Greece and Israel played a defensive-oriented game, apparently laying everything on the line. Israel took the lead initially with a game-opening 18-4 advantage, but they relied on their captain Noam Shimon Dovrat to maintain the lead and won 69-65. After Greece had reduced the margin of victory to two points late in the contest, Dovrat scored six of his 19 points.
