Scottie Pippen Jr. has a famous father and a famous name, but he’s carving out a place for himself with the South Bay Lakers. The 6-foot-3 guard has a two-way deal with the Lakers but has seen most of his opportunities in the G League. Last Thursday, he scored 28 and had 10 assists in just his 28 minutes, and he hit 5-of-8 from the arc. Two days later, he tallied 31 points, 6 assists, and just 1 turnover in his 32 minutes. He’s an average 3-pointer, but if injuries continue to plague the Lakers, he could be poised to make an impact in making shots and defending offensive points. Freeman Liberty, his 6-foot-4 guard at DePaul this season at Windy City, is an absolute monster for the Bulls. He’s averaging 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game on 51.9/40.0/88.9 shooting splits, putting those numbers up in less than 30 minutes per game.
He started the week with just 20 shots against his charge against Cleveland with 39 points, and he finished with 31 against the Skyhawks on Thursday and 37 against the Swarm on Saturday. Tracking it at home, he’s 36.6 points per game this week, and from the field, he’s 34 of 57 (59.7%). Freeman-Liberty’s G League contract is his only one and can be signed by any of his NBA teams. McClung has spent a lot of time on his NBA roster — his two 10-day deals with the Chicago Bulls, his two-way deal with the Lakers last season, and his two with the Warriors and Lakers. He was fired after two unsecured contracts. Although he has never competed in an NBA game, he has earned accolades for his explosive jumping skills that earned him an invitation to the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

McClung, who currently plays for his Coates Delaware Blues, last Monday saw him tally 40 points, eight assists, and five rebounds at the Wisconsin Hards, earning him a G League pick this week. He did it 15-of-20 from the field and 7-of-9 across the arc. If he keeps playing like this, he will make his NBA debut sooner or later.
