Lebanon vs Australia FIBA Asia Cup Final will be held on July 24. On Saturday the Lebanese national basketball team defeated Jordan 86-85 in a dramatic match at the FIBA Asia Cup. It is the first time that Lebanon has reached the final since 2007 and it will face Australia on Sunday, October 7th. These 2 countries have historically played each other 8 times with 4 match victories for Lebanon and 4 for Jordan – most recently during the 2009 quarter-finals. Australia defeated New Zealand to reach their position as finalists, with one semi-final yet to be determined.
The Lebanese team made it to the semi-final after beating Jordan 72-69 during the quarter-finals. The top scorer for Lebanon against Jordan was Wael Arakji with 25 points. He was followed by Sergio El-Darwich and Mohamed Haidar with eight points each. Earlier that day, Lebanon had beaten China 72-69 after a great performance from the Lebanese team, who finished top of Group D with a maximum of six points from three wins in total against New Zealand, the Philippines, and India.
