Latvia vs Turkey FIBA World Cup Qualifiers game will be held on August 25, i.e on Thursday at Arena Riga. With its illustrious roster and star power, Gilas Pilipinas will face Lebanon, one of the most unified Asian basketball teams, in the matchup. When Gilas Pilipinas enters the court in Beirut for the FIBA World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers in August, it may be wearing one of its most decorated lineups in recent memory, but that doesn’t guarantee victory. Gilas Pilipinas will need to overcome a Lebanese squad that has been on a roll despite having a lineup headlined by former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz, Kai Sotto of the Adelaide 36ers, and Japan B. League veterans.

On Friday, August 26, Manila time, Lebanon will also have the benefit of playing at home in what is anticipated to be a crowded Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex. Known as the Cedars, the Lebanese team fell to Australia in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup finals by a razor-thin margin of 75-73 last July in Jakarta. Since 2019, Lebanon has only lost twice in 23 games in international competitions. The Cedars showed to be clutch in the FIBA Asia Cup, especially in the knockout stage. They narrowly defeated China by three points in the quarterfinals, 72-69, after defeating Chinese Taipei by a point in the playoffs, 97-96. Lebanon beat Jordan 86-85 in the semifinals, by the tiniest of margins.
