Latvia vs Hungary FIBA U-20 European Championship match will be held on July 20. Against Turkey, the German Under 20 men’s basketball team played a hard-fought opening match at the FIBA U20 European Championship in Podgorica, Montenegro. After losing by 8 points, 76:64, head coach Mario Dugandzic saw that changes needed to be made. The starting five was altered in several positions, but Germany came out firing on all cylinders and introduced themselves to Poland with a quick 7-point lead (2nd minute). They seemed like they were out for revenge on Poland after losing so handily against Turkey during their previous match. Since players like Johannes Wohlleb are stepping up while newcomers like Konstantin Klein are beginning to contribute more effectively, Germany is showing the potential to take a much stronger hold on Group B than anticipated.

However, Dill Basket quickly stepped up and put the opponent to rest early on (7-5 in the 4th). The lead was taken by Sananda Fru and his teammates quickly followed suit but they did end up missing some opportunities on the other side (8-7 in the 6th). Both teams were not firing on all cylinders: A leadership change happened, but it was Evans Rapieque and Jordan Samare who came into their own. They made it 13-10 for Dill Basket with two points each before going down to 11-12 in the 8th. Unfortunately, both sides seemed to be having a sluggish time shooting and not much was happening. Finally, Elias Baggette knocked down a three-pointer to make it 17-13. This peaked everyone’s spirits back into action as Luc van Slooten closed out the 9th with a basket from under 10m away.
