The LA Sparks will head to the Barclays Center for their second consecutive matchup against the New York Liberty on Wednesday, August 3rd. In the previous game between these two sides on Tuesday, the Liberty were able to bag a thumping 102-73 win.
Brittney Sykes led the way for the Sparks with a 19-point performance. She also bagged 6 rebounds in the 30 minutes that she played on the court. Nneka Ogwumike chipped in with `15 points, while Olivia Nelson-Odada scored 12 points for the Sparks. The team had a good first quarter, but from thereon things started to go downhill for them. The Liberty never really let them step foot in the game and lept making buckets to take the win on the night.
Meanwhile, for the team from New York, Sabrina Ionescu starred as she scored 31 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Of her 31, 30 points came in three quarters. She looked in great offensive flow and the Sparks had no answer to any of her brilliance. Natasha Howard also showed up scoring 24 points and bagging 11 rebounds in just 23 minutes. Marine Johannes and Han Xu combined to score 25 points off the bench to further ease things for Liberty. With this win, they were able to overtake the Sparks and grab the eighth position on the table. If they continue performing well, they can continue making upward strides and build the perfect momentum, come the playoffs.
Chiney Ogwumike is reported to be doubtful for the game on Wednesday. Rae Burrell is indefinitely out as her knee injury will certainly have her miss the remainder of the season. To add to the list, the Sparks will also be playing without Kristi Toliver, who is suffering from a calf injury. Meanwhile, the only player that is ruled out for the New York Liberty is Betnijah Laney, who is ruled out for the rest of the season due to right knee surgery.
