The LA Sparks will head to the Barclays Center for a WNBA matchup against the New York Liberty on Tuesday, August 2nd. This will be first of the back-to-back games that these two teams will face each other in.
The Sparks are headed to the encounter on the back of an 84-77 loss against the Minnesota Lynx. Nenka Ogwumike scored 23 points on the night. Brittney Sykes added 15 points, while Katie Lou Samuelson and Chennedy Carter added 10 points each. Despite their efforts, the Sparks ended up losing their third straight game. The team are now eighth on the table, but the likes of the Atlanta Dream and Minnesota Lynx could take over their spot if they don’t get back to being at their best. A lot has been going on in the locker room. But the Sparks need to now focus as the race to the playoffs gets a lot tougher with just a few more games left in the league stage.
Meanwhile, their opponents are a New York Liberty team, who are fresh off a dominant 89-69 win against the experienced Phoenix Mercury side. Natasha Howard starred for the Liberty as she scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on the night. Rebecca Allen and Crystal Dangerfield added 17 points each to ease things for Liberty. Sabrina Ionescu missed out on a triple-double as she made her presence felt with 10 points, 16 assists and 8 rebounds. All of these performances proved to be a massive boost for the team and this helped them take an 89-69 win at home.
LA Sparks’ player, Lexie Brown’s status is questionable for the game on Tuesday as she continued to recover from an ankle injury. Kristi Toliver and Rae Burrell will indefinitely be ruled out as their injury will take a longer time to recover. For the Liberty, Betnijah Laney will indefinitely be ruled out for the game on Tuesday. She could also be out for the season as she underwent an injury on her right knee that will keep her out of action for a while.
