The Phoenix Mercury vs Connecticut Sun game will be played on August 2nd at 7:00 PM ET [Wednesday, August 3rd at 4:30 AM IST]
The Phoenix Sun will head to the Mohegan Sun Arena for their WNBA game against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, August 2. Both these teams are coming off disappointing losses in their previous encounters.
The Mercury were up against a struggling New York Liberty side. Many had their hopes on the team from Phoenix to bag a win, but the Liberty dominated the matchup to take home an 89-68 win. Sophie Cunningham scored 21 points for the Mercury. Skylar Diggins -Smith and Shey Peddy added 13 points each, but none of that was enough to stop New York on the night. Natasha Howard led the way for them with a stunning 23-point performance. This loss has pushed Mercury to the seventh spot on the table. They will be looking to take a win against the Sun and make a move upwards.
However, it is not going to be easy as the Connecticut Suns are a tough side to break down. They have already clinched a playoff spot and are in the third position. The team’s last game ended in a 95-92 overtime loss to the Chicago Sky. DeWanna Bonner scored 23 points and bagged 9 rebounds. Alyssa Thomas also stepped in with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists on the night. However, the Sky were too determined and took the game into overtime, where they eventually won the encounter. The Sun will be looking to bounce back after that disappointment and give in their best against the Mercury on Tuesday.
Mercury has reported Diamond DeShields and Kia Nurse to be out for the game due to injuries. Brittney Griner will be indefinitely ruled out as she continues to fight against her wrongful detainment in Russia. Meanwhile, the Sun has only reported Bria Hartley to be out due to injury.
