Ivory Coast vs Cape Verde FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers will be held on August 27 at Palais des Sports de Treichville. To put it mildly, Saturday’s opening African Qualifiers match between Cape Verde and Angola was bizarre. After the final tie at 53-53, Childe Dundao gave Angola the advantage, they went on to win the game. Dundao, incidentally, ended up being the difference maker for Angola despite only playing for 15:36 minutes. Dundao’s strength was recognized by Coach Joseph Claros, who only used him when it was absolutely essential. Dundao arrived with lots of enthusiasm and forced Cape Verde to make mistakes.
Bruno Fernando was pulled out and stayed in the game until the fourth quarter when he used his stature to advantage when Walter Tavares was taking a break and had only caused 5 points in the whole game while having a 14 efficiency. Being the first Angolan in the NBA, Fernando didn’t fail to demonstrate that he had developed. Coach Claros says he commends his team for fighting valiantly. While acknowledging that there were several fouls and calls that were modified throughout the game, he expresses relief that his troops completed the job.
