The Brisbane Bullets will go against Cairns Taipans in the NBL Australia match on November 18 at Nissan Arena (Brisbane). The Brisbane Bullets were able to escape the Tasmania JackJumpers in Hobart with a 74-72 NBL victory thanks to Jack McVeigh’s missed runner on full-time. When the Bullets led by 18 points late in the second half on Saturday, a third straight victory appeared secure, but their offense sputtered severely as the game went on. With over six minutes remaining, Aron Baynes (16 points, 9 rebounds) gave Brisbane the lead, but it was the visitors’ final field goal of the game as the Bullets were hampered by offensive fouls, shot clock violations, travels, and missed attempts.

With 34 seconds left, Rashard Kelly’s two free throws reduced Brisbane’s lead to three points, but fellow import Josh Magette came up with a fast steal and a basket four seconds later to reduce the deficit to one point. With 11 seconds left, Baynes made one of two free throws to put an end to the Bullets’ scoring drought, which had lasted more than five minutes. The Bullets were relieved when McVeigh, Tasmania’s leading scorer (17 points), missed a last-second attempt at his signature runner. After starting the game slowly, the Bullets quickly gained momentum. Centre Tyrrell Harrison’s tip-jam off a missed shot by 350-game veteran Jason Cadee at the end of the first quarter gave Brisbane a 19-14 lead.

The JackJumpers were stymied by the zone defense of the Bullets and, unexpectedly, missed their first 13 three-point tries, which cost them at the opposite end of the court. By putting Tasmania further on the back foot with a four-point play, a banked three by Nathan Sobey, and a strong drive by former NBA combo guard Tyler Johnson, Brisbane was able to increase its lead to 46-30 at the half thanks to a 17-2 run. As the JackJumpers began their rearguard fight, McVeigh and development guard Sean Macdonald erupted in the third session to cut the score to 11 points at halftime.
