The race for the eighth and final spot in the quarterfinals is a close one. With one game remaining, Rain or Shine and Converge are now deadlocked on a 4-6 win-loss record. NorthPort and Phoenix Super LPG, both having records of 3–7, are listed below them. With three straight victories following a six-game losing streak, Rain or Shine is the most hotly favored of the four teams. Phoenix just snapped a five-game losing streak, while NorthPort, before losing to Ginebra this weekend, also snapped a six-game losing streak. Converge had won its previous two games before suffering a blowout 89-66 loss to Phoenix.
As things stand, there is still a potential that all four clubs will have 4-7 records as their final standings. That occurs as a result of wins by NorthPort over NLEX on Friday and Phoenix Super LPG over Barangay Ginebra on Thursday, and defeats by Rain or Shine against Magnolia and Converge, and Blackwater on Wednesday. PBA regulations state that playoff games will be used to break ties for the eighth place unless three or more teams are involved. In these situations, the playoff will include the two teams with the two best quotients, with the other teams being eliminated.

Phoenix Super LPG really has the advantage in the case of a four-way tie because it has a win-loss record of 2-1 over the other three teams and a quotient of 1.0913, despite their difficulties during the eliminations. NorthPort, which has a 2-1 record versus the three teams and a quotient of 1.0361, has an edge in that situation as well. Contrarily, Rain or Shine and Converge will have quotients of 0.9458 and 0.9286, respectively, excluding them from the quarterfinals.
