As the Commissioner’s Cup enters the last stretch of the elimination phase, the best teams continued to go undefeated this past week. All three teams—Converge FiberXers, Bay Area Dragons, and Magnolia Hotshots—racked up victories, albeit the ways in which each of them did so caused some shifting at the top. They first defeated Phoenix Super LGP 132-127 to win the battle of streaking teams. They overcame a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit four days later to defeat the unlucky Rain or Shine Elasto Painters by one point. Converge has already qualified for the quarterfinals, but to secure one of the two top slots, they will probably need to defeat NorthPort Batang Pier and Barangay Ginebra in their last two games.

The Dragons went 2-0 in Week 8 and won by an average of 27.5 points, bouncing back from a defeat to the Meralco Bolts and welcoming Myles Powell back into the fold. In place of Andrew Nicholson, Powell was reactivated. In his first game back, a 120-87 thrashing of the Elasto Painters, Powell scored 50 points. Powell scored 36 the next night as the Dragons crushed the NLEX Road Warriors by 20. With Magnolia and TNT Tropang Giga as their remaining opponents, the Dragons may have the toughest schedule of the three clubs vying for the top two slots.
