At the brand-new Tbilisi Arena complex on Saturday, Georgia’s Under 20 national basketball team defeated Austria to begin to play in Division B of the FIBA U20 European Basketball Championship. Under the direction of head coach Milos Gligorijevic, the national team trounced its opponents by a score of 81:65. Vladimer Salaridze led the squad in scoring with 15 points, while Nordin Kapic led Austria with 22 points.Â
On Sunday, the Georgian national team will play Sweden. Georgia is hosting the Division, which has teams from 19 nations split into four groups. The top two teams from each group go to the playoffs, while the group’s overall champion, second- and third-placed clubs advance to Division A and fight against the best the next season.
