Joseph Janela also known as Joey Janela was born on July 2, 1989, in the town of Hazlet, New Jersey. Joseph had a burning passion for professional wrestling, so much so that he lied to wrestling promoters about his age and his professional training and entered professional wrestling at the age of 15.
Joey Janela made his pro wrestling debut in the 2006 National Wrestling Superstars show in which he lost in a Triple Threat Match against JD Smooth and Corey Havoc. Janela would continue working for NWS till 2012 when World Xtreme wrestling would book him for a match against Brandon Scott. Later Janela would make his Progress Wrestling debut in a match against Jimmy Scott and lose.
Joey Janela would make his Combat Zone Wrestling debut in 2014 during the Tournament of Valor match. where he would face off against Dave McCall and lose in the first round. He would then start working in the CZW’s training academy till CZW 16 where he would fight Sozio and actually win. Janela’s breakthrough came with his appearance in Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), where he gained notoriety for his participation in the critically acclaimed “Joey Janela’s Spring Break” events. These shows pushed the boundaries of traditional wrestling, featuring unique and often bizarre matches that captured the imagination of fans. Janela’s innovative approach and willingness to blur the lines between fiction and reality earned him a dedicated following.
Joey Janela would become one of the first wrestlers ever to sign into the AEW in January 2019. Being one of the first-ever wrestlers would then allow him to work on independent wrestling dates. Later down the line, Janela would start a feud with Shawn Spears by disrespecting Spears’ manager. Janela then faced Spears at Full Gear on November 9 but unfortunately, he lost to Spears. Later in December, Janela would once again face Jon Moxley in a rematch only to lose once again. Janela’s AEW contract would later expire on May 1, 2022. After his exit from AEW, Janela would announce his DDT Pro-Wrestling debut.
Not much about Joey Janela’s dating life is known and currently, he is single. But it is public knowledge that Joey Janela and Penelope Ford were in an on-again-off-again relationship prior to joining the AEW. According to Joey, both of them dated inconsistently till 2018, in a rocky relationship that lasted almost four years. Both of them split up in 2018 and currently, Penelope Ford is married to Kip Sabian.
