The United World Wrestling has determined the host city for the Ranking Series in 2023 and will grant wrestlers a two-kilogram weight tolerance at each Ranking Series event beginning next year. The modification was authorized during a meeting of the UWW Bureau on Monday to finalize the calendar for 2023, among other things. The Bureau also approved the creation of a Athletes’ Entourage sub-Commission. The Bureau was also presented with a two-kilogram weight tolerance, which was immediately accepted. The decision will encourage wrestlers to participate in future Ranking Series tournaments in their preferred weight class rather than an upper weight class.

Apart from certifying the four Ranking Series stops, the continental championships for 2023 were also confirmed, with New Delhi, India and Sydney, Australia confirmed as hosts of respective continental championships. The Asian Championships will return to New Delhi, India for the second time in three years, as the city has been chosen to host the tournament in 2023. The competition was formerly held in February 2020 in the Indian capital. The Oceania Championships will be held in Sydney, Australia in 2023 as wrestlers from the region get ready for the World Championships and try to secure a spot in the Paris Olympics.

In addition to the four Ranking Series stops, the Bureau has added the Asian Games and Pan-American Games as competitions that will provide wrestlers with ranking points. The two Games will award the same number of points for rankings as the continental competitions. Despite the inclusion of Regional Games in the Ranking Series, a wrestler’s top six results will only be taken into account for the annual rankings. Only the points earned in the World Championships, as well as the wrestler’s other five best results at ranking events (including continental championships and two Games) during the year, are used to determine the Best Athlete of the Year title.
