Glover Lucas Teixeira was born on October 28, 1979. He is a former mixed martial artist who is Brazilian-American. He most recently competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) Light Heavyweight division; he is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Teixeira wrestled in the WEC, Impact FC, PFC, and Shooto while he was a member of the Brazilian National Wrestling Team. He is the oldest first-time champion in UFC history and the second-oldest champion overall, after Randy Couture. He is currently ranked #2 among light heavyweights in the UFC as of December 6, 2022.

Teixeira received his 7th Degree Hawaiian Kempo Black Belt from The Pit Martial Arts owner Hackleman, his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt from American Top Team Connecticut head coach Luigi Mondelli, and his Vale Tudo Black Belt from Marco Ruas of Ruas Vale Tudo. Teixeira is also a qualified CrossFitter.

Glover Teixeira – UFC Light Heavyweight Championship

Teixeira was scheduled to compete against Jan Bachowicz for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 266 on September 25, 2021. The fight, however, was postponed and rescheduled for UFC 267 on October 30, 2021. Teixeira won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship by way of a rear naked choke in the second round. With this victory, he became the 42-year-old first-time champion in UFC history and was also given the Performance of the Night trophy.

Jiri Procházka was the opponent for Teixeira’s championship defense at UFC 274 on May 7, 2022. The fight, however, was canceled on June 11 at UFC 275 for an unspecified reason. Teixeira engaged in a back-and-forth struggle before being submitted in the fifth round with a rear-naked choke. He won the Fight of the Night prize for this battle.

Teixeira competed against Jamahal Hill for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 283 on January 21, 2023, as a result of the belt remaining vacant due to a draw. Following the fight, he would declare his retirement after losing the fight by decision.
