Former UFC champion Daniel Cormier has voiced his support for Sean O’Malley to get the next title shot ahead of Henry Cejudo. ‘Suga’ recently defeated Petr Yan via split decision at the UFC 280 event. Going into the fight, it was suggested that the winner would take on Aljamain Sterling for the championship.

However, following Aljamain Sterling’s win over T.J Dillashaw, UFC president Dana White suggested that Henry Cejudo might me the one next in line. It is worth noting that Cejudo hasn’t fought in a while. He retired from the UFC as the flyweight and bantamweight champion.

However, he has been eyeing a return to the octagon. And it will most likely be him who’ll get the next title shot. Speaking about the same during the recent episode of his podcast, Daniel Cormier suggested that Sean O’Malley should be the one next in line. He said: “I still would think about maybe making this guy next because regardless of what you feel and how you feel the fight was judged. At the end of the day, Sean O’Malley got his hand raised. For the sport, Henry Cejudo, as the guy who left as a double champion should be next. But I think it’s more than likely to be Sean O’Malley.”

Is Sean O’Malley ready for Aljamain Sterling?

As mentioned earlier, Sean O’Malley is coming off an impressive win over Petr Yan. While the result of the fight was rather controversial, the truth of the matter is, the fight could’ve gone either way. By beating the former champion, O’Malley has certainly made a strong case for himself to take on Sterling.

However, judging from what we saw from Aljamain Sterling in his last performance, it’s hard to see Sean O’Malley beating him. The UFC bantamweight champion has supreme ground game which can trouble O’Malley.

That said, it will be interesting to see how Sean O’Malley does against Sterling if and when the fight is made.
