In a Fight of the Year contender, Jiri Prochazka was almost finished on many occasions but rallied to submit Glover Teixeira in the final minute to win the light heavyweight championship at UFC 275 in Singapore on Saturday night. At several points during the bout, both men came close to finishing each other. The 42-year-old Brazilian was troubled by Prochazka’s hitting and body punches, but Teixeira’s wrestling and ground game suffocated the Czech fighter. The Singapore audience was treated to a jam-packed card, but the climax was one of the most bizarre. In a bout that featured a little bit of everything and a lot of momentum changes, the 42-year-old and the new champion fought back and forth.

UFC 275 Main Card highlights

Valentina Shevchenko vs Taila Santos

In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko survived the biggest test of her career by the tiniest of margins. In a five-round fight, Taila Santos gave the long-time champion everything she could manage. In her career as the flyweight champion, Shevchenko has faced minimal opposition. That was not the case against Santos from the outset. In the first round, the Brazilian came close to securing a rear-naked choke, and she continued to threaten the champion throughout the fight. On the mat, the challenger did his finest effort. The fight’s outcome was undoubtedly altered by a fourth-round head clash. Santos’ eye was severely swollen as a result of the injury, and Shevchenko won the fight in the fifth and final round.

Zhang Weili vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk

This fight concluded in the same way as their last match, although the winner had it considerably easier this time. In a convincing second-round knockout victory over Joanna Violence, Zhang looked better than ever.  Weili was brilliant throughout the bout, but a spinning backfist that sent Jedrzejczyk face-first on the ground completed the masterpiece. Jedrzejczyk declared her retirement on the broadcast following her loss.

Winner: Zhang Weili

Jake Matthews vs Andre Fialho

On the main card, Jake Matthews defeated Andre Fialho via TKO for the first time since 2015. He won’t have to wait another seven years for a knockout if his performance is any indication. From the start, Matthews’ hitting was precise and precise. Following a defeat against Sean Brady, the Celtic Kid wasted little time in demonstrating that he had improved his boxing skills. Fialho, who had just won back-to-back knockout victories, proceeded to shoot back. He had a few good moments and managed to postpone the finale for a time. This, on the other hand, appeared to be the Matthews who entered the UFC as a hot prospect.

Winner: Jake Matthews

Jack Della Maddalena vs Ramazan Emeev

In little over half a round, Jack Della Maddalena and Ramazan Emeev managed to cram three rounds of back-and-forth into just over half an hour. Maddalena won via TKO, however she was within seconds away from losing the fight. Emeev aimed to take the battle to the mat as soon as possible, and he was successful. He went for a deep anaconda choke that almost put Maddalena out. The Australian was able to break free from the grasp, but it was the beginning of the end for him. Maddalena demonstrated the kind of eye-catching ability that makes him an intriguing potential. He went all out on Emeev, landing a shot to the liver that knocked him out and ended the bout.

Winner: Jack Della Maddalena
