Background

Pereira, who was raised in a slum, quit middle school at the age of 12 to start working at a tire store. He started drinking as a result of his coworkers’ influence, and he eventually developed alcoholism. He started practicing kickboxing in 2009 to overcome his addiction.

Early Career

Pereira was the only guy to simultaneously hold both the Glory middleweight and light heavyweight belts in kickboxing. At a 2015 event dubbed Jungle Fight 82, Alex Pereira made the switch from kickboxing to mixed martial arts and lost the fight by submission.

Pereira, who previously competed in kickboxing, lost his professional mixed martial arts debut to Quemuel Ottoni [pt] via submission in 2015 at Jungle Fight 82. He proceeded in Jungle Fight, where he went on to win two fights in a row by KO and TKO over Marcelo Cruz and Marcus Vinicius Silveira. On August 10, 2018, Pereira declared he had signed a deal to compete against Diego Henrique da Silva in the Brazilian version of Dana White’s Contender Series. However, Glory refused to let Pereira compete, hence the fight was never held.

Pereira made his official debut against Thomas Powell on November 20, 2020, following reports that he had signed a deal with Legacy Fighting Alliance on October 22, 2020. He was knocked out in round one of the fight.
