In the wake of what seems like an attempt by Conor McGregor to scrap their scheduled match, MMA sensation Michael Chandler has responded. The two fighters, who are currently serving as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter series, were slated to clash after the show’s conclusion. However, uncertainty now looms over the fate of their impending bout.

Uncertainties arose in the aftermath of Justin Gaethje’s recent victory over his longstanding adversary Dustin Poirier, earning him the BMF championship title at UFC 291. In the wake of Gaethje’s powerful knockout, Conor McGregor, staying true to his distinctive approach, took action by publicly challenging ‘The Highlight’.

McGregor calls out Justin Gaethje for a fight

“Justin, I’ll slap you around. I’m the real BMF, he can fight for pennies if he wants but I want spirits, I call the shots, I’m in it to launch shots, f**k Chandler, you want it call for it,” McGregor wrote.

Continuing his playful banter, McGregor proceeded to share yet another tantalizing update, this time posting a picture of himself autographing a photograph within The Octagon. The accompanying caption simply stated: “Signed.”

Chandler is unfazed by McGregor’s comments

Even in light of McGregor’s recent psychological tactics, Chandler has maintained his composure in the face of these remarks. Speaking with ESPN, he highlighted the intriguing nature of mixed martial arts, emphasizing how the sport operates on a “what have you done for me lately” basis. He also pointed out the human tendency to be influenced by recent events, acknowledging the prevalence of short-term memory and recency bias in the industry.

“I’m not really that worried about it. I believe the fight is happening. The fight makes too much sense for it not to happen. I’m still the most entertaining guy on the doggone roster. Everyone wants to see the greatest comeback in combat sports history, so I think it’s going to be me and Conor. That’s it.”

McGregor’s disruptive behavior has led to potential fight disruptions on previous occasions as well. The 35-year-old athlete has recently faced complications by failing to meet the deadline for enrollment in the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s testing program. To be eligible, fighters are required to undergo six months of testing, yet the Dublin-native star’s name has yet to be listed within USADA’s online records.
