In an unexpected twist, veteran combat sports star Conor McGregor has expressed his desire for another shot at undefeated professional boxer Floyd Mayweather. Despite being lined up for a return to the Octagon under the UFC banner, McGregor seems determined to revisit the squared circle and challenge Mayweather once again.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion in the UFC, recently made headlines with his call for a rematch against Mayweather. The two first crossed paths in a much-publicized boxing match in 2017, where Mayweather secured a tenth-round standing TKO victory over McGregor.

Since their initial encounter, both fighters have continued their respective journeys in the combat sports world. McGregor, 35, most recently faced Dustin Poirier in a trilogy rubber match at UFC 264 in July 2021. Unfortunately for McGregor, the fight ended in disappointment as he suffered a left tibia and fibula fracture, leading to a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss.

Meanwhile, Mayweather, a former multiple-time and weight world boxing champion, transitioned to the realm of exhibition bouts. He participated in high-profile matchups against opponents like Logan Paul, Tenshin Nasukawa, and most recently, John Gotti III, with the latter ending in a chaotic mass brawl.

Despite McGregor’s ongoing commitments in the UFC, his focus seems to have shifted towards a potential rematch with Mayweather. McGregor took to his official X account to share his intentions, even sharing a voice memo calling out Mayweather. In the now-deleted posts, McGregor mentioned his unique approach, stating, “Don’t forget, I played ping pong with Floyd’s (Mayweather) head. I carried him! In the rematch, I am going to use this style of attack but alongside a more destructive set of shots on top also. B4, it was just ping pong, this time it’s ping pong and Babe Ruth with a baseball bat. KO incoming.”

While McGregor’s desire for a rematch with Mayweather is evident, the feasibility of such an encounter remains uncertain. Both fighters have continued to capture the attention of combat sports fans, and a potential rematch could reignite the fervor that surrounded their first meeting.
