The Legend of Zelda’s verified Twitter handle shared a tantalizing sneak peek of Nintendo’s forthcoming game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The clip showcased an exciting in-game tool, the rocket, which players can acquire to enjoy brief but intense bursts of acceleration. Furthermore, Nintendo treated fans to a comprehensive YouTube trailer that highlights the rocket and other exciting gameplay features.

The game will be released on Switch on May 12 and the company has described the game as follows:

“An epic adventure across the land and skies of Hyrule awaits in The Legend of Zelda™: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch. The adventure is yours to create in a world fueled by your imagination.

In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?”

Players can access the sky islands in numerous ways within the game, expanding Link’s possibilities. The latest abilities include Recall, enabling players to rewind an object’s movements, Fuse, which permits item combination, Ultrahand, which enables attaching and detaching objects for crafting custom-made vehicles, and Ascend, facilitating ceiling-jumping.

A novel enemy type, the Construct, also presents an additional challenge. It’s worth noting that some adversaries may wield fused weapons, further increasing the game’s complexity.

History of delays for the game

To allow for additional development time, the sequel game’s release, initially planned for 2022, was postponed until spring 2023.

In March 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released for Nintendo Switch and Wii U. The game garnered significant recognition, winning Game of the Year at three separate award ceremonies: the 35th Golden Joystick Awards in November 2017, The Game Awards 2017 in December 2017, and The SXSW Gaming Awards ceremony in March 2018.

Nintendo lists the Tears of the Kingdom game size as 18.2 GB, which is one of the biggest games the company has released for the Switch. This means you may need additional storage space and want to consider purchasing a microSD card. Additionally, there may be more amiibo compatibility details to come, but we know that scanning specific Zelda amiibo will modify the glider design. Pre-order links for the game are also available.
